Mcpcb Manufacturer Explains DFM Method Of Metal Core PCB

2022-01-10

Look, we understand that designing a mcpcb is a daunting task. You are trying to build all the functionality you need into a package that literally gets smaller and smaller with every new mcpcb manufacturer.

And then there is another manufacturer who stands above his soul just before the end of the production cycle. He says that this place is too small, here it is too thin, but this component does not fit. Are you tired of these endless agreements? You know what? – and your manufacturer too!

This is where Design Forwarding Management (DFM) can make life easier for everyone. Think of it as a kind of risk management, personal insurance. This ensures long hours of design are translated into the finished product by the end of the day.

You like it or not, you can design the best mcpcb in specialized software. If your mcpcb can’t be made, then all the work will go to waste. So, instead of fighting the manufacturer for every micron, just start the design process without making these 10 mistakes that every mcpcb manufacturer hates.

Mcpcb Manufacturer

1 – Lack of sufficient margin from the edge

This problem lies with copper, which is an excellent conductor and is also prone to corrosion when exposed to environmental factors. To cope with this problem, the manufacturer covers the conductive layer with a protective material. But what happens if you don’t indent enough from the edge of the board to the conductive layer?

This protective coating can break off during the manufacturing process, exposing the copper layer, and then disaster such as unwanted short circuits or corrosion can be expected. Leave some space between the conductive layer and the edge of the board.

This problem is easy to fix with mcpcb manufacturer. Make sure you leave enough space between the conductive layer and the edge of your mcpcb. The minimum distance is 0.010 “for the outer layers, and 0.015” for the inner layers. You can even specify these margins in your design code (DRC) so that you don’t have to worry about it the next time you start designing a mcpcb.

2 – Formation of acid traps

Most likely, we already know that in the topology of the printed circuit board, you should not use conductive tracks with an acute angle, choosing instead of connecting the tracks at an angle of 45 degrees, an angle of 90 degrees. Mcpcb manufacturer helps prevent acid build-up during mcpcb etching, preventing any future major defects.

But again and again, mcpcb designers forget one simple thing and still allow the creation of acid traps at the junction of the tracks at an acute angle. Do yourself a favor and carefully trace any bends in the tracks after you finish routing.

Did you unintentionally create an acid trap at the junction of two tracks even when using 45-degree routing? It does happen, but fix this flaw before your manufacturer receives the design files.

3 – Placement of vias by mcpcb manufacturer

It can be very tempting to place the via inside the pad while reducing the size of the mcpcb manufacturer. But now you may already know that when the time comes for surface mounting, the solder will leak from the contact pad through such a hole, which will lead to a poor installation of the soldered component.

Since this is a special one-off technology that is of course useful under the right conditions, use it only where it is absolutely necessary. This remains true for micro-vias, blind vias, and blind vias. If there is an alternative – use it!

4 – Excessive Complexity of Your Board Layout

If you are struggling to place all surface mount (SMT) components on one side of the board, and are thinking of placing a couple on the back, stop immediately. This will not only lead to a rise in the cost of at least two times, but also to the fact that the manufacturer will have to start the machine to place the parts on the board not once, but twice.

Nobody likes to waste money during manufacturing, so when routing a mcpcb manufacturer, take the time to place all SMT and Hole Mount components on one side of the mcpcb. The manufacturer will thank you later, and the wallet will thank you too.

mcpcb manufacturer Must check Layers

You may think that the development process ends right after you hit the “Generate” button for the Gerber application, but wait! There is one more step to take. Manufacturers from time to time receive Gerber files with layers that don’t even match, as we know the 30-year-old file format is imperfect.

The free Gerber Viewer app gives you the ability to easily compare the layers of your finished routed mcpcb manufacturer.

Before sending your design files to the manufacturer, take a little time and open them in a third-party Gerber file viewer to make sure all layers’ match. If they do not match, then in all likelihood you will need to re-generate the output documentation, or make certain changes to the topology of the printed circuit board.

7 – Using tools of different sizes in mcpcb manufacturing

We all need mcpcb manufacturer mounting and vias, but are you the guy who decides to make half of the holes 37 mil and the other half 38 mil? Not only would this require another set of different sized tools that the manufacturer would have to reinstall into the machine, but it would also eat up a lot of your money.

Instead of using different sizes of mounting and vias, make them the same size. For standard 0.062 “material, you can use 13.5 mil vias and 37 mil mounting holes. In addition, mounting holes and vias of the same dimensions will make it easier to add new holes in the future when the need arises.
